This form of modern slavery involving children poses a serious challenge to the professionals responsible for protecting and rehabilitating those caught up in it. Many of the psychologists at DGA have completed assessments and it is clear that a multi-disciplinary approach is needed. Police need to find them and Local Authorities then have to ensure they have safe accommodation and appropriate education. Social workers, psychologists, family therapists and the charitable sector also play an important role in providing provide support to their families and interventions that address the complex problems which contributed to the child’s vulnerability in the first instance.
